Another great youth profile

Reserve Grand Chianina Female 2012 Jr Nationals

Name: Elizabeth Heaton
City & State: Toulon, IL
Age: 18
Family:  Rick & Nancy Heaton and my older brother Jon
Favorite Cattle Show:  NAILE
Favorite show heifer you have had and your accomplishments with her:  It is very hard to pick a favorite, but I would have to say our black and white baldy heifer named Sarah; she was a 15 time breed champion and the Champion AOB heifer at the 2009 NAILE.
Typical day in my barn:  My brother and I get the heifers in before the sun comes up, Jon rinses while I dry them and tie them high in the cooler. Then a little while later we work hair for a few hours, tie them down and feed them some hay. In the evening we will get them up, rinse, work hair, feed and turn them out after dark.
Who are your mentors: Jason Minnaert, our family would not be where we are today without his help & guidance along the way. My brother is my biggest mentor, he is the person that I look up to the most and strive every day to follow in his footsteps.
Plans after High School: I will be attending Black Hawk East this fall. and will be participating in livestock judging.  From there I plan to transfer to Oklahoma State University to double major in Ag Business and Ag Communications. After I graduate from a University I plan on raising show cattle along with my brother and have a job in the field of agriculture.
Other activities:  I am a member of the winning county team at the State contest this year so I will be judging at the American Royal this fall. Also, I am a member of the 2012 Illinois State 4-H team and will be representing the state of Illinois in the judging contest at the NAILE.  I was elected into an At-Large position on the American Junior Maine-Anjou Board this year and will be serving a 2 year term. I’m also a member of the University of Illinois Extension Council.
