Grand Champion ChiAngus Spotlight

Name: SyAnn Foster

City & State: Lockney, TX

Age: 18

Family: Jody, Shawnda, Senee’ and Segayle Foster

Favorite Cattle Show: Jr. Nationals is my favorite show because you get to see all your friends you haven’t seen since Louisville and you always go home knowing and meeting more people.

Favorite show heifer you have had and your accomplishments with her: My favorite show heifer would be my bred and owned heifer FBF True Luck.  She won the first show we took her to at Jr. Nationals in Kansas City in 2008 as a little calf and never received less than Reserve anywhere we took her.  She was crowned the Jr. Champion ChiAngus female at the NAILE and was Reserve ChiAngus Female in the Open show that same year.

Typical day in my barn: I wake up and feed my heifers first then get a little bite to eat for me and then halter them and put them in the barn to start rinsing them and brush them dry.  Then they stay under the fans with misters on them the rest of the day and I do other things to keep the ranch going.

Who are your mentors: I have been so blessed to have many important people in my life.  Starting with my parents, they have done everything they could to make sure my sisters and I were able to do everything we wanted to even if we had to do all of it in one day.  Jered Shipman, Joe Seale, and Josh Lesky have been the brothers I never had and between the three of them they have taught me pretty much everything I know about the cattle industry.  I would not be the person I am today if it wouldn’t have grown up in a cattle barn and I don’t know about y’all, but I love being a cowgirl!

Plans after High School: I will be attending Texas Tech University in the fall and plan on majoring in Animal Science.  I will also be participating on the prestigious national champion wool, meats and livestock judging teams.

Other activities: I love to spend time with family and friends, play basketball, and most importantly worship God.
